North Country Gardening
Our shorter growing season doesn't limit your gardening experience. It just gives you more time to plan.
It's hoped this site will become a compendium of Adirondack gardening information and resources. It is also a way for me to share some of my own gardening efforts with distant family and friends. Your suggestions, comments and contributions of photos or information are most welcome. Please send local gardening event info for the calender.
Gone to Maine!
The Adirondack Gardener has left his beloved mountains and moved to the hills of Western Maine. A job, of course, has dragged me away to a land with a bit milder climate for gardening. I'll miss my old Bloomingdale garden. It was a neglected, overgrown plot that I enjoyed clearing and turning into a productive and visually appealing garden spot. The steep hill behind had suffered from neglect and the propensity of the owners to toss all manner of trash down to the creek. I hoped to finish cleaning up that eyesore and create a native plant garden there, but that will be left for future tenants.
I also miss the neighbors and complete strangers who stopped by to talk gardening or just look it over.
I've recently settled into a new home here in Oxford County, Maine where I'm waiting for the snow to melt and a new garden to begin. Another 25 Chantelcler chicks have just arrived to start a new backyard flock. The garden spot is a long, narrow roadside plot, thankfully not prone to flooding and with a full Southern exposure. Of course, I'll be posting progress photos of the garden on a new website, waynesgarden.com Stop by and say hello.
Please
with questions or to say hello. Looking forward to a pleasant 2008 gardening season.
